The Seven Days of Creation

In the very beginning, God made the whole wide world, one wonderful day at a time. Come and see all the good things He made.

On the first day, everything was dark and empty — but God was there. Then God said, “Let there be light!” and warm, bright light filled the dark. God saw that the light was good. He called the light “day” and the darkness “night.” That was the very first day.

On the second day, God made the big open sky. He stretched it high above the waters, wide and blue, with plenty of room for clouds to float and breezes to blow. God looked at the sky He had made — just right for the world He was making.

On the third day, God gathered the waters into seas, and dry land rose up in between. Then God covered the land with growing things — soft green grass, tall leafy trees, and bright flowers and sweet fruit of every kind. The whole earth turned green and good.

On the fourth day, God set lights in the sky. He made the bright golden sun to shine in the daytime, and the gentle silver moon to glow at night. Then He sprinkled the sky with twinkling stars. God saw that it was good.

On the fifth day, God filled the seas and the skies. He made splashing fish to swim in the deep blue water, and birds of every color to fly and sing in the air. God blessed them and said, “Grow, and fill the seas and the skies!” God saw that it was good.

On the sixth day, God made all the animals — hopping rabbits, stomping elephants, and tiny crawling bugs. Then God made the very first people, a man and a woman, in His very own image — made to be like Him. He asked them to love Him and to care for His world. God looked at everything He had made, and it was very good!

On the seventh day, all the work was finished, so God rested. He blessed that special day and made it holy. God had made a beautiful world, full of color and life — and He made it as a gift of love, just for you and me.

Thank You, God, for making such a beautiful world, and for making me. I love every wonderful thing You made.
